The Latest from Life Change Academy

Dear friends of LCB,

Our In-School program starts up again on September 1, 2010. Please let us know if you would like to visit a school- we’ll do everything we can to make that happen for you. We’ve hired 3 new instructors this year;D’Ann Waterman, an inner city school dance teacher of 20+ years from N.W. Classen; Khyra Chiles, a recent graduate of OU school of dance; and, Bob Hollis, retired from sales and a golf/ballroom dance enthusiast! We’re excited to welcome them and get started this year!

We have collected 1,000 new books which we will be donating to our participating schools again this year!

Y.E.L.P. Program -The Life Change Ballroom Dancers just performed at the Skirvin Hotel on July 24th and were consequently invited to be the opening act for the Dancing For a Miracle Fundraiser from here on out. That pretty much sums up their performance-- they were spectacular! The kids are getting so creative, too! They are choreographing their own dances now and we are finding they are incredibly talented at it!

The LCB dancers will be performing Wednesday, September 29th at 5:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall of the Cox Convention Center for the Oklahoma Municipal League’s annual conference. I’m not sure that’s open to the public or not, but if you happen to be there, I hope you’ll come by!! Two other upcoming performances are at the Oklahoma Swing Dance Club on Friday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m. and Britton Christian Church on Sunday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m.. (dates to be announced soon). They will of course perform at our 5th Grade Competition Event on December 16th, 2010 as well.

We hope you’ll save the date- Thursday, December 16th - for our 5th Grade Competition Event. It will be held at Rose State Theatre again and, as always, attendance is FREE! It’s really a great show! Please let us know if you (or someone you may know) might be willing to help us with the raffle gifts we provide for our school teachers at that event. We like to have 20 – 25 really nice gifts to raffle off for them—we do have benefits for sponsorship—I’ll attach that brochure. Our OKC classroom teachers deserve a boost! If you have any great gift ideas for them, I’d love to hear from you!

We also hope you’ll save the evening of February 10th, 2011 for our fundraiser. It will be a lovely dinner/dance and we’re hoping you’ll use this as your excuse to take out your favorite valentine while supporting a wonderful program! Come dance the night away and the Life Change Ballroom Dancers will entertain you as well!

Tracey Pipkin and Tami Bramel have rolled off our board of directors and we want to thank them so much for their invaluable service to both our board and our program as a whole. They will continue to work with and serve Life Change Ballroom outside of board activities. Mary Huddleston and Jennine Bortmesshave graciously agreed to join our board of directors. Both have extensive non-profit experience and we are so glad they have agreed to join us.

Looking for help. Can anyone teach me how to compress DVD files so I can put streaming video of the kids’ performances on our website? I understand that’s what makes them load and play immediately without a lot of “load time” on the viewers end. Is that right? Anyway, if anyone can walk me through that process, I would be ever so grateful!

Thank you all for loving this program with us. Whether you’re a financial supporter or one who gives their time and/or expertise, we appreciate you!

Much love,
